ROSIA-RAISE

Healthcare systems across Europe are under growing pressure. This is largely due to an increase in chronic conditions, along with an ageing population. In rural or remote areas, the challenge is even greater. People often live far from hospitals and clinics, and healthcare services can be stretched thin.

Telerehabilitation (the remote delivery of rehabilitation services using telecommunications technology) offers a way to address this. It allows people to access care remotely using digital tools. However, current systems are often fragmented. They lack the coordination and patient focus needed for effective use.

To solve this, ROSIA-RAISE is building an open and easy-to-use digital health platform. It brings together different rehabilitation tools and services within a shared system.

Key features include:

• A digital space where patients, caregivers, and clinicians can plan care, give feedback, and interact
• A resource catalogue that helps patients manage their own care at home
• Developer tools for adding certified, high-quality services to the platform

Importantly, the platform will be tested in Spain, Portugal, and Ireland to show how well it works in real settings.

Trilateral Research is supporting the Irish pilot of ROSIA-RAISE at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH). Our work helps make sure the platform is easy to use and works well in real healthcare environments.

Specifically, we are:

• Delivering training sessions, both online and in person, for patients, staff, and researchers
• Collecting feedback from users to improve the platform quickly
• Flagging any issues and reporting them directly to the developers
• Helping create clear guides and support materials based on what users need

Because we work closely with both users and technical teams, our input helps shape a platform that is practical, fair, and useful to everyone.

ROSIA-RAISE will help make rehabilitation more accessible. Thanks to its digital health approach, more people will be able to access care when and where they need it. This is especially useful for areas with fewer local health services.

The project will:

• Move care away from in-person appointments and towards flexible, digital support
• Allow patients, carers, and professionals to work together more easily
• Provide tools that support patient learning and self-care
• Make it easier for new services to be added by developers

By combining all these features into one system, ROSIA-RAISE will improve patient dignity and health outcomes. In turn, this will help healthcare systems become more responsive and more efficient.
